The search began with five whispered words, in an unusual setting, from an unlikely source. I couldn’t shake them from my mind. As a husband, father, and small business owner, life was good. But this new perspective made my head spin.

We all have a natural curiosity about richness. Whether material possessions or financial security, there’s a built-in desire for what those things promise. What if there was a way to reconcile our longing for richness to include a much deeper, well-rounded life?

These surprising stories and insights will enrich your life and pre- pare you to enrich others in the process.

PRAISE FOR REDEFINE RICH:

“What is it to live a rich life, full of true wealth, and satisfying in all ways? Matt Ham has packed this book with all the wisdom you need in order to answer that question, and attain that elusive quarry—a good life blessed with the most precious riches of all. Join him on an adventure that you’ll immensely enjoy, and from which you’ll greatly benefit!”
—Tom Morris @TomVMorris
Author of True Success

“Richness isn’t about net worth, in the same way as wealth isn’t about income. Matt Ham’s book tells the story of how he came to understand that living richly comes from your heart, from relationships, from things that last. Figure that out, and your life can be truly rich despite its hard parts, which Matt knows well. You Make My Life Rich is inspiring, heartwarming, and powerful.”
—W. Lee Warren, MD @DrLeeWarren
Author of No Place to Hide: A Brain Surgeon’s Long Journey Home from the Iraq War

“‘Rich’ is way overused in contemporary culture. In his new book, Matt Ham takes us back to the ancient and authentic sense of rich—the richness of life in joy, sorrow, complex challenges, and simple pleasures. Through the eyes of people who have faced true richness and drawn attention to its source, he shares stories and insights we should all remember on a daily basis. Yes, this book is for the business person seeking richness but also for the human soul. Great reminders that will, simply put, remind you to live a more true and robust life. And in the process, collect the richness all around you.”
—Celia Sheneman @TheMarisGroup
Principal/Founder, The Maris Group

“Matt Ham sets out to redefine rich, and he does just that. He presents a clear picture of richness that collides with what rich seems to be. The stories provide clarity and the practical steps provide hope.”

I have had the pleasure of knowing Matt Ham for the last 5 years. Our relationship began as a client/agent relationship as he manages our insurance policy. I never thought I would find such depth of character in an insurance salesman, of which profession there are many stereotypes. I will admit that when I began reading his blog it made me a little intimidated and a little jealous because of how different his life was early on and the greatness he obtained in high school, college, and early career. Hearing his story of loss and struggle and redemption and his perspective that it is all a part of the pursuit of true richness has inspired me in many areas of my own life. This is a great book and I highly encourage you to pick it up and read it...more than once!

This is a fantastic study on living a RICH life. The principles illustrated here (defined with an acrostic RICH) are really something the world needs to hear. I've been teaching, preaching, coaching, and speaking on Stewardship for years and the RICH principles align with the ideas I've been teaching very well (and that's probably why I love the book, huh?) But more than that if everyone would take Matt's advice and just examine their life through these principles not only would THEIR life be Richer, but so would be the lives of those of us who live beside them.

If you are looking for a touching read about what it REALLY means to be RICH, you couldn't be better served than by this book.

I’ll be honest: Redefine Rich is not a book that I would probably pick up for myself in a bookstore. I believe that people are given different gifts by the Holy Spirit, and one of mine has always been the gift of generosity. I have no problem with my own financial status, and it has varied widely over the years. I have always cherished the verse about storing up treasure in Heaven and the principle that I cannot out-give God.

But not everyone feels that way.

In fact, many people struggle with feelings of unsatisfaction that they believe are tied to their money. This culture is one of spending big and living large, where success is measured by the size of your house or the number of cars sitting in your garage. Matt Ham was one of those people, and he’s writing this book for people just like him—who have reached the next milestone, who by all rights ought to be happy, and yet who feel, “There must be something more.”

I reached out to Matt Ham because of a campaign he is launching with his book to fundraise for various charities. In fact, he wants the sales of his books to fund $1,000,000 in donations to different charities that are important to him. And as the owner of a small non-profit, I was interested in hearing his message and connecting with him. I fundraise for families adopting children with special needs internationally; in my opinion, there is no community in the world that understands better the principle that there are richer things in life than money. Daily I interact with families who are selling heirlooms, downsizing on everything they own, forgoing vacations, driving the beaten-up car for another year…all so they can afford to ransom the life of a child forever. If that’s not an inherent understanding of redefining what it means to be rich, I don’t know what is.

So my takeaway from Redefine Rich is less “this changed my life” and more “this could potentially change yours”. Who knows? Maybe you’re like me—you feel blessed in life and content with where you are. Then this is the book to pick up for that family member, that friend, that coworker with the nagging sensation that there’s something more to life than the rat race. But maybe you are that person, seeking to find out what it is that’s missing from your life. Ham breaks it down into simple principles that are developed with a plethora of examples, parables, Bible teachings, and cultural connections.

Considering how central a role finances play in everyone’s lives, Ham’s teaching couldn’t be more relevant—or more timely. Especially as Christians, we are called to steward the various assets that God entrusts to us, and a big portion of that involves contentment and wisdom in the things we have rather than envy of the things we lack. In fact, depending on how you redefine richness in your own life, perhaps you will come to find that you really lack nothing at all.

This book was very inspiring . When you think you are on the end of your rope you read about someone who is worst off than you. Then you think I am not alone. After a hard day I would just sit back and relax with the writings of Matt Ham. Very talented young man and a true Christian. The story about his aunt's passing stirred me the most. I have been in the same boat . I invite you to read this book not just once but over again. Very good reading and uplifting . Buy several and give as gifts for those you cherish in your life.

This is a long-overdue review, but this is a GREAT book. Yes, I'm a bit biased since Matt and I are good friends from college.

Reading this was much needed as I was closing out 2014 and bringing in 2015. This book has excellent advice, thoughts, a positive outlook, and authenticity.

My take? Get it, and you probably want to read it again (and again)!

This book had me reflecting on what was really making my life rich... and what I had to do to acknowledge and change. When things become overwhelming for me, I know I need to get back to the RICH principles - and especially leaning on the gratitude portion. Matt is a great author and I can't wait to see what he has coming in the future.
