My Story

MH17Hey, I’m Matt, and I believe that your whole life matters. But if you’re like me, you’re so busy that you’ve forgotten what that really means.

Unintentionally, we lose sight of what truly matters in life and buy in to the lie that professional success will yield personal fulfillment. In short, we do more as a way to be more. But that’s a vicious cycle that leaves us exhausted.

For years, I thought a six-figure income would help validate who I was, so I masked my pursuit within the nobility of providing for my family and living a good life. Beneath it all, I was afraid—afraid of poverty and the opinions of others.

It took a family member’s suicide, going broke, nearly losing my marriage, and a cancer diagnosis for God to finally get my attention. The truth is, the busyness of life had drowned out His voice.

Over the past few years, I’ve dedicated myself to living this reality in the trenches and writing about what I’m learning. As a husband, father to four, small-business owner, author, and speaker, there are constant demands on my time and energy. The struggle is real, but living whole is not impossible. A whole, healthy life begins with perspective.

In the fall of 2013, I started with three goals: to be authentic, to be engaging, and to be helpful. I bring a fresh perspective to the table that challenges the way we think about faith and the big questions we so often overlook.

Is there an identity and purpose for my life beyond my career?

What story is my life telling and does that story matter?

Is God real and is His word applicable in the midst of my crazy, busy life?

Does God really have a plan for me?

In the fall of 2016, I co-founded YouPrint, a faith development organization to bridge the gap between Sundays. At YouPrint, we focus on one-to-one mentoring to help people discover their life’s unique and individual purpose. In addition, we provide transformational resources to help you get unstuck and thrive in your gifts.

The heart behind my passion is simple: Your whole life matters. God is at work and he wants to leave His fingerprints on the world through yours. Your life is telling an amazing story. I can help you understand that story better as a way to cultivate wholeness in your own life and thrive in your God-given design.

I’m glad you’re here and I look forward to walking with you.

  • Great site, Matt! And what a great family! Wish we were in the same town. I think we’d be great friends – many similar interests and purpose. I’m looking forward to getting to know you better here, though. 🙂

    • Chance,
Thank you so much for taking the time to read! I caught a little bit of you on Robert’s YouTube page and then have seen a few of your posts via Twitter as well! I would love to stay in touch, who knows where these roads may lead! Keep fighting the good fight my man! Have a great holiday weekend!

  • You are an inspiration my friend… I read everything you write and you have motivated me to get started on a project that I have let little details become road blocks and allowed me to procrastinate. I’ve added you to a Directory that I am building … I’ve been lucky in always having everything I have ever needed although I don’t have many needs… Like that Zig Ziggler saying “If you help enough people get what they want, you will get what you want.”… What I want is to help everyone get what they need. It’s a bottom up strategy from family, friends, community, small business, family farms, local non profits… a groundswell of ideas and drive that will ignite the changes we need that everyone can have what they need. Thank you Matt!!!

    • Michael,
Thank you brother! That’s awesome to hear about your new site! Please keep me in the loop with it. Zig is the man and very wise; you are wise to follow. Michael, although we only worked together for a short time, I always appreciated the fact that, I don’t think I ever saw you without a smile on your face. That takes a lot of strength and shows incredible opportunity. Keep fighting the good fight!

  • Great About page!

    • Thanks! And thanks for stopping by!

  • Chad Biggerstaff

Great site man! Very inspirational… We have a lot in common, and we are looking forward to being neighbors by the end of the year. I just wanted to touch base. We are looking forward to getting to know you and your family.

    • Thanks Chad! Are you moving to Autumn Hall?? Shoot me an email! Would love to catch up!

      • Yeah man! Getting ready to start… I shot you an email yesterday with some more details. Talk to you soon.

        • Just got it Chad! Thanks and we’ll definitely catch up soon!

  • Great new site, Matt!! And c’mon, dude! Look at those legs! 😉

    • Hahaha! You should see my wife’s 😉 (JK)

      Thanks for stopping by brother!

That moment was so spontaneous when MJ was greeting me at the finish line, I just picked him up and threw him on the shoulders. If you knew me 5 years ago, there’s no way I would have been in the position, mentally or physically, to ever think about doing that.

On another note, I’m working out a Nashville trip summer or fall – I’ll be in touch!

  • Thanks for putting yourself out there. Thanks for sharing from your own hard-earned, firsthand experiences.

    • Thank you for being part of the story, Arlen!
