Embracing Christmas: 12 Days of Christmas Cheer: #ARichChristmas Day 9

Have you ever felt so overwhelmed with joy in a particular moment you want to hold on to that moment forever?

You want to squeeze that memory so tight, take a mental picture and remind yourself of it constantly.

I had a moment like that this morning and I’ve been reflecting on it most of the day.

This morning, for the first time ever, we took MJ to “BIG CHURCH“.  Seeing how much he loves music, we thought he’d love the familiar Christmas songs sung by the band.

If you saw yesterday’s post, you’ll know that “O Holy Night” is my favorite Christmas song.

Not ironically, at least in my eyes, when I saw the church bulletin this morning, I read the words across the page:

A Thrill of Hope via Port City Church

It rested with me that those were the words I pondered this week from my favorite Christmas song.  Needless to say, when I saw the bulletin, I felt further confirmation.

God had my attention.

During the worship service, MJ wanted me to hold him up high so he could see the drummer.

The short version is that Matthew Jr, MJ, represents so much to me; but particularly, God’s presence and His love.  We were at the end of our rope and the flame of hope was beginning to extinguish when God showed up.

This morning, as I held MJ, the band went into “O Holy Night”

As those words poured over me, I looked into my son’s eyes as he stood amazed at the band, taking in every moment.

I was doing the same.  Amazed at God’s provision and humbled by His presence.

I could feel my eyes filling up with tears.  Tears of absolute joy.

When we got home, I revisited my prayer this Christmas, which you can see here.

I closed the prayer with these words.  As I reread them, I realized my prayer had been answered this morning.

“God, this Christmas, I long to see the hope of our souls met with the truth of your word.  As they collide, may it remind us that you are there, as a gentle child.  Calling us to the manger.  Calling us to come, rejoice and worship the King.  AMEN”

As I set there embracing Matthew, I felt God’s truth collide with my soul.

So, I stood there, rejoicing and worshiping the King.

What moments will you embrace this Christmas?
