Matt vs. Wild

I love reality shows like, “Survivorman” and “Man vs. Wild”.

I am amazed by them because I am so incapable of going into uncharted territory, living off the wilderness for days.  Les Stroud and Bear Grylls, the personalities behind these programs, are amazing in their ability to tackle the most extreme environments. When these men overcome challenges it sparks a belief in us that it can be done.

As I was watching one of these shows the other day, it reminded me of where I am personally.

Uncharted Territory.

When I felt this calling to start speaking, I began writing. I laugh because my high school yearbook admits to English being my least favorite subject. The reality of me being a writer is really tough to wrap my hands around.

However, I’ve learned, that’s where great dreams begin. A great journey is fueled by questions and difficulty.

As I’ve walked my road, here are a few things I have learned:

1.  You’ve got to start – When you get the nudge, I urge you to act.  It is only through our action that God can expand our ability to see. God can work if we don’t move, but our movement creates a tidal wave of possibility.

2.  Encouragement is the greatest gift you can give – The encouragement and stories you have shared with me have given me so much hope. Hope that people care. Hope that people want greatness. Continue to give the gift of encouragement.

3.  When you seek you will find – As you search for the things of your heart, you will find them. Go back to #1, you must start. Seeking is not a complacent activity.  It requires diligence and determination. Stick with it, you will find it.

4.  Opportunity awaits –  There is a world of possibility and a world of opportunity that is hidden from view because of fear. We’ve let words like why, can’t and silly tarnish our dreams. Everyone has a message to deliver. Everyone has a story to tell. The opportunity is waiting for you.

As you begin taking one small step, you’ll recognize that you’re given light along the way. Your path will illuminate before you as you continue.

My small steps have led me to a step I NEVER considered; true uncharted territory.

I share my vision here only to encourage you on your own journey.

Yesterday, I felt the realization that God wanted me to write a book. A book that needs to be written. Rather than confuse myself with words like why, can’t and silly, I’m choosing to take the first step. I didn’t want to let this story only reside in my mind, so I am putting it on paper.

I heard it said the other day, “Some of the best books are in the bottom of a drawer somewhere. Fear kept them from being shared.”

I will admit, I am in the wild. However, I recognize that I am not alone. For that, I am so grateful.

I’d love for you to come along on my journey with me. I’d love to share in your journey as well.

Where is your uncharted territory?

It’s like you wrote Matt, you got to start for if you don’t you never know what you can accomplish. And once you start, it is like in George Strait’s song, you just “put one foot in front of the other” and go forward. Good luck my friend and I, along with many others, are behind you all the way.
